T is for James Taylor and 'Fire and Rain'

James Taylor wrote and released ‘Fire and Rain’ in 1968.  It is a folk rock song that has three verses. Each of Fire and Rain's verses deals with an adversity Taylor has dealt with in his life.  One is about a friend who committed suicide,

another is about Taylor's addiction to heroin,

the third refers to a mental hospital and a band Taylor started called The Flying Machine.

Each verse is followed by the same chorus,

`I've seen fire and I've seen rain.

I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end.

I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend,

but I always thought that I'd see you again.'

The song ‘Fire and Rain’ was used in the film Running On Empty which came out in 1988 some 20 years later and it is is still a popular song today partly because of the emotional content of the song
