A is for Albinoni (and Butterflies)

The Adagio in G minor for violin, strings and organ continuo, is a composition often attributed to the Tomaso Albinoni (1671 – 1751) but it is now generally thought to have been composed almost entirely by Remo Giazotto (a 20th century musicologist and Albinoni biographer).

Whenever I hear the first bars of this piece my mind is immediately transported to my childhood and watching Wendy Craig in Butterflies (1978 – 1983). It was always played when Ria (Wendy Craig) was walking through a park on her own and contemplating her life choices and thinking of Leonard.

The piece has also been used in other films e.g. Flashdance, Manchester by the Sea, The Doors etc
