Rob Mulholland - sculptor and environmental artist - mirror sculptures

Rob Mulholland is a sculptor and environmental artist based in the United Kingdom who exhibits throughout the UK and world-wide exploring the complex relationship between humans and the natural world. Utilizing a wide variety of forms and materials his sculpture installations interact with their surroundings.

Although this post highlights on his mirror sculptures he has a whole host of amazing sculptures in other mediums which you can discover via his website

Rob Mulholland incorporates mirrored surfaces in his sculptures to reflect the given environment and alter the viewers perception of the space. They are in fact created out of Perspex( a kind of acrylic glass) and have the effect of blending into their surroundings, appearing almost completely camouflaged at times but at others suddenly jumping out at you as your perspective shifts.

“The essence of who we are as individuals in relationship to others and our given environment forms a strong aspect of my artistic practise. In Vestige I wanted to explore this relationship further by creating a group, a community within the protective elements of the woods, reflecting the past inhabitants of the space. […] The six male and female figures represent a vestige, a faint trace of the past people and communities that once occupied and lived in this space. The figures absorb their environment, reflecting in their surface the daily changes of life in the forest. They create a visual notion of non – space. A void as if they are at one moment part of our world and then as they fade into the forest they become an intangible outline.” Rob Mulhollan
