O is for ‘Out Here on My Own’ by Irene Cara

Out Here on My Own’ is a ballad performed by Irene Cara in the 1980 musical film ‘Fame’.

I loved Fame when I was younger, and was really inspired by all the passion, enthusiasm, dedication and resilience of the characters.

I also loved the music and lots of the songs were full of meaning like this one

“Sometimes I wonder where I've been,

who I am, do I fit in?

Make believing is hard alone, out here on my own.

We're always proving who we are,

Always reaching, for that rising star to guide me far and shine me home,

Out here on my own.”

I dry the tears I've never shown, Out here on my own.

“Sometimes I wonder where I've been,

who I am, do I fit in?

I may not win, but I can't be thrown, out here on my own...
