Here, there and everywhere

We may sit in our library and yet be in all quarters of the earth’

John Lubbock

A bibliophile is a person who collects or has a great love of books. I definitely am.

I was so pleased to rediscover a few of the books I used to love to read as a child in a second hand shop whilst on holiday a few years ago. I used to love the Magic Faraway Tree and all of the folks that lived in it and the adventures they went on. I was so inspired that I even used to write my own stories about other lands that they might have visited. This ability to be able to be transported to another place or having my imagination fired when reading; whether it is just a recipe, a scene in a book or an idea I want to develop is something that has stuck by me throughout my life and I am really grateful.

I also formed my own "Womble Club" where a few of my friends and I used to get together after school to write and illustrate new stories for various wombles!

I have read all of these books to my children and grandchildren. They would always spark a discussion about the various characters in the books.

I like that you were inspired to write your own stories after reading them.

Reading aloud to your child is so important for them, it encourages imagination, fires curiosity, improves concentration, language skills and best of all will enrich their lives.

"There is no such thing as a child who hates to read, there are only children who have not found the right book."

- Frank Serafina
