Awe-inspiring amethyst

Miners have discovered an amazing quartz geode on the Uruguay/ Brazil border. When they split the rock open they discovered a perfectly formed, natural beautiful purple heart on each side of it.

Uruguay Minerals had just begun excavation at the Santa Rosa mine in the Catalan area in Artigas, a rugged terrain of basalt providing difficult conditions under which to work—but their struggle was rewarded with this stunning specimen.

Uruguayan Amethyst is a rare, deep purple gemstone from Artigas in northern Uruguay, an acclaimed Amethyst source with a famous pedigree. It is some of the very best Amethyst available and is coveted for its spectacular beauty and is highly valued due to its rich colour and durability.

Amethyst crystal geodes are formed almost exclusively in South America, primarily in Brazil and Uruguay. Moreover, the geodes are only found in a narrow stratum of the earth, which the miners call, “the Colada”.
